National Financial Management Officer’s Focuses
2009-2010
As Financial Management Officer I would like to provide accurate, timely and relevant financial data all financial management officers whether on area or squadron staff. This includes cost estimates, budget projections and accounting execution data. With that being said, I want to allow those financial management officers to employ their leadership skills and make educated and informed decisions themselves. Keeping squadron finances ‘in the green’ is a huge task and must be maintained at all times. Along with providing information to financial management officers, I will offer ideas and suggestions to help keep areas and squadrons financially independent and stable. By having all this information, ideas and other important financial information, we as a society will be able to more effectively spend money!
Helpful hints to help you obtain sponsorships and monetary support
Step 1: Set up a meeting with who you are requesting a sponsorship with. The meeting should either be a memo format letter asking for sponsorship or a presentation.
Step 2: Update your letter or presentation to be more personalized rather than generic. Show them you don’t just want their money, but a true sponsorship.
Step 3: Prepare! Know your presentation and what you’re going to say. Think of possible questions they may ask you. You don’t want to take more than 20 minutes of their time.
Step 4: Arrive on time. Explain the memo or give your presentation. Shake hands and say thank you regardless of the outcome.
Step 5: At this point you know whether they’re going to sponsor you or not. If they don’t, send a thank you letter for their time and willingness to listen. If they do sponsor you, send a thank you letter to formally in writing thank them.
Step 6: Follow up. Be sure to give your sponsor updates on what you’ve been up to, where their money was spent and upcoming events. They’ll appreciate it!
Other helpful hints:
Request Sponsorship Letter: This letter really sets the tone for you. Be sure to explain who you are, what AAS is and how you’re apart of it. Explain your squadron’s activities and how they’ve impacted your school, community and leadership. Let them know how much money you’re asking for, why you need it, who it’s going to benefit and most importantly how the sponsorship will benefit the company. Also include how you’re putting in some effort and fundraising on your own. Don’t mislead them, be up front and straight forward.

Presentation: In your presentation explain the need to know information: What AAS is. Who you are and you squadron’s activities and how they’ve impacted the school and community. If running for higher headquarters, explain which one, what it is and why you’re running for it. Of course be sure to tell them how they (the sponsor) can benefit and why you need the money and sponsorship. Finally, if asking for money, tell them how much you’re asking for, what it will benefit and how you’re planning on putting in some effort too.
Thank you letter: In your thank you letter, be sure to personalize it. Important details not to forget: The company name, what you’re thanking them for, how it helped and who it benefited. Feel free to add more information if you’d like.
